Vernon Roy Christensen was born June 17, 1925, to Marion and Velma (Coates) Christensen in Moorhead, Iowa. He was raised in the Moorhead and Pisgah area and attended country school in both Moorhead and Pisgah. In February of 1944, he joined the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge he returned home and married Phyllis Lorena Bothwell on August 14, 1946. The couple farmed near Moorhead. They later moved to Moorhead where Vernon had his own stock truck and corn shelling business for many years. Due to ill health, Vernon entered Rose Vista Nursing Home on September 23, 2003. He enjoyed living at Rose Vista. Nobody was a stranger; and he welcomed everybody who came in the door and all the staff with a big smile, a wave and said, "YES SIR REE!"
Vernon was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church. He loved little kids and his whole life interest has been his grandkids and great grandkids. His hobbies were playing cards, camping, and watching the World Series.
Vernon died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa attaining the age of 81 years, eight months, and 21 days.
