Violet G. Shepard, 84, of Missouri Valley died on Sunday, December 7th at the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. Violet was born on October 2, 1919 in Raglan Township east of Mondamin to Fred R. & Bessie (Whitney) Bell. She was baptized on March 13, 1931 at the Church of Christ in Mondamin. She graduated from Mondamin High School in 1937. On December 28, 1940, she married Dwayne Shepard in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple lived in Wichita, Kansas while Dwayne worked at Cessna Aircraft. They then moved to Defiance, Iowa to help care for Dwayne's father. Later on the couple moved to the Magnolia area and farmed. Dwayne died in November of 1999.
Violet loved to make quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She sent cards to shut-ins, served on the welfare board and at elections for several years. She loved to read, garden and being outdoors enjoying nature.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son Dallas, grandson Charles Joy, son-in-law Jim Clark and two sisters Bessie Bell and Verda "Toots" Pruitt.
Survivors include her children Leona & Larry Joy of Missouri Valley, IA, Lillian & John Boddy of Littleton, CO, Lorene Clark of Pisgah, IA, Elwin & Linda Shepard of Blair, NE
Erwin & Joanne Shepard of Omaha, NE, Loyd & Beth Shepard of Blair, NE, Lois & Dennis Hall of Logan, IA, Leo & Marty Shepard of Missouri Valley, IA, grandson raised as a son Marty & Paulie Shepard of Blair, NE; 20 other grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and a sister Verva "Teddy" Hardy of Missouri Valley.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday at the Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Visitation with the family will be from 7 - 8:30 PM Tuesday.
