Wallace Richard Hare was born on May 20, 1927, to Streamer Gladhill and Bessie Margaret (Young) Hare near Woodbine, Iowa. He attended country school and then attended Woodbine High School. Wallace served in the United States Army 40th Infantry during the Korean War. Wallace married Kathleen Petersen on November 29, 1953, at the First United Methodist Church in Woodbine, Iowa. The couple started farming west of Woodbine and eventually settled on Kathleen’s family farm and lived on this farm for 45 years. They moved into Woodbine in 2005. In addition to farming Wallace operated a machine shop on the farm.
Wallace was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodbine. He was also a lifetime member of the two cylinder club and of the NRA. He liked to fix things and work on old John Deere tractors.
Wallace died on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 84 years and 20 days.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Hare and Bernard Hare. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Hare of Woodbine, Iowa; two children, Frederick Wallace Hare of Illinois and Rebecca Ellen Hare of Shelby, Iowa; friend, Sandy Lary of Logan, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
