Wayne Robert Freihage was born March 30, 1935, to Willie and Lorna (Mohr) Freihage in Sharpsburg, Iowa. He was raised in the Sharpsburg area and graduated from Creston High School. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956~1962. Wayne married Eileen Osborne December 12, 1959. The couple was blessed with five children. On September 15, 1984, Wayne married Jan Lambirth in Stevensville, Louisiana. He worked at Mack Truck in the parts and service department. He also worked at MDS Precision Inc., and at Polar Inc. as a salesman.
Wayne loved to be outside working on the farm and in his garden. He also enjoyed reading and going to auctions. His passion was tinkering with tractors. His specialty was fixing any and all Farmall tractors. It might take him a few days, but Wayne could get any motor running smoothly again.
Wayne died on January 29, 2011, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 75 years, nine months, and 30 days.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Emma Jean Freihage; and grandchild, Keegan Gunia. He is survived by his wife, Jan Freihage of Dunlap, IA; five children, Paul (Laurie) Freihage of Carthage NC, Dave (Annie) Freihage of Pisgah, IA, Lee (Laura) Freihage of Hershey, NE, Angela (Kevin) Cook of Council Bluffs, IA, Andrew (Angelina) Freihage of Highlands Ranch, CO; stepchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Gunia of Dunlap, IA; Jeff Nuzum of Shell Knob, MO, Joe Nuzum of Overland Park, KS; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Freihage of Des Moines, IA, Lyle (Marsha) Freihage of Hayden, AL, Gail (Sharon) Freihage of Prescott, IA; three sisters, Shirley (Fred) Madison of Cedar Rapids, IA, Maxine (Dean) Frazee of Omaha, NE, Linda (Bruce) Hixson of Thornton, CO; and many other relatives and friends.
