Wayne Joseph Kelly was born November 27, 1939, near Woodbine, Iowa to parents John & Gertrude (Schoemann) Kelly. Wayne grew up in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1957. Wayne served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves. After completing that commitment, Wayne then worked for Missouri Valley Machinery in Omaha, Nebraska. After his father's sudden death in 1958, Wayne came back to Woodbine to run the family farm. Besides running a successful farm Wayne was quite mechanical; repairing and overhauling not only his own equipment but that of many neighbors and friends. Wayne continued farming and raising cattle until November of 2000 when he suffered a massive stroke. Since that stroke, Wayne has been a resident of the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center and more recently at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine. Wayne loved life and had quite a sense of humor.
Wayne died on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 18 days.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Patrick Kelly. He is survived by his brother Kendall Kelly and his wife Margie McAllister of McKinney, Texas, niece, Mary and her husband Tim Plowman, and their children Jonathan and Jamie Plowman all of Woodbine, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
