Wilbur Carson

Wilbur Laverne Carson was born May 29, 1924, on the home place in Pisgah to James and Minnie (Chase) Carson ~ the youngest of 12 children. Wilbur "Curly" attended country school in the Pisgah area and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1941. He started farming east of Pisgah. Wilbur married Evalena Mann on December 19, 1945, in Pisgah. While he was actively farming he worked a variety of part time jobs including: McKinney Seabury Chevrolet Garage, working on the water and sewer system in Omaha, custom bailing, and as a hired hand for John Lizer. The couple moved into the town of Pisgah in 1979. Wilbur then started working for Beefland packing plant in Council Bluffs. He also helped Mike with his cattle. Wilbur and Ralph Shepard ran a sawmill together and cut trees and supplied many people with their firewood.

Wilbur was a member of the Community of Christ since 1956. He held various church positions including teacher. Wilbur had a wonderful sense of humor ~ and he had this right up until the end. Wilbur also had the patience of Job. He loved to be outside and around family and friends.

Wilbur died Thursday, October 5, 2006, at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa attaining the age of 82 years four months and six days.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Mary; son-in-law, Paul Mann; six brothers, Chase, Clyde, Harold, Ben, Marion, and Merritt; and four sisters, Eula Nichols, Velma Hinkel, Fern Marcum, Rachel Crews. He is survived by his wife, Evalena Carson of Pisgah, Iowa; four children, Larry Carson and special friend Darla Ronk of Omaha, Nebraska, Lola Mann of Des Moines, Iowa, Mike Carson and his wife Vicki of Pisgah, Iowa, Mary Carson of Logan, Iowa, brother, Elmer Fay Carson and his wife Dorlene of Nashville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Florence Carson of Onawa, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
