Wilbur Lee Moore was born October 5, 1932, to Lee R. and Ella Mae (Goodman) Moore in Willow Township, Monona County, Iowa. He was raised in the Moorhead area and attended country school. Wilbur proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from May 13, 1953 ~ May 12, 1955. He was in the radar school. Wilbur married Darlene Nuzum on September 19, 1953, at the Christian Church parsonage in Logan, Iowa by Rev. Evans. Wilbur drove a tank wagon for Skelgas for seven years. He started farming for Dale Welliver and continued to farm for Dale while he purchased his own farm in 1969. Wilbur raised a lot of hogs and cattle over the years. In 1991, Wilbur suffered a severe stroke, but he still loved to farm. In the last few years he did not actively farm, but he would still help transport his boys back from the fields and do what he could.
Wilbur was a member of the American Legion Peter Hanson Post #365. He also served on the Moorhead Co-Op board for a number of years. He loved to fish hunt, and mushroom hunt. He also enjoyed tinkering in his shop. Wilbur would spot walnut trees and was the broker between the farmer and the walnut buyer. Wilbur and his brothers were very creative with the things they would try.
