William Wingrove

Dow City, Iowa

William Leon Wingrove was born February 23, 1929, to Herbert and Bertha (Cramer) Wingrove in Dow City, Iowa. He attended country school and then helped his parents farm. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. Bill married Carolyn Mulligan on December 19, 1953, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. The couple lived in Dow City and Bill worked for the County Road Department. They then lived in California for three years where he was a welder for Precision Sheet Metal. They returned to Dunlap and then to Dow City where Bill drove a truck. Due to ill health Bill retired when he was 55.

Bill was a member of the Dow City American Legion for over 50 years.

Bill died on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 20 days.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Ben Mulligan; and granddaughter, Amy Rae Wingrove. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wingrove of Dow City, Iowa; daughter, Connie (James) Neal of Tempe, Arizona; three sons, Rick (Marsha) Wingrove of Dunlap, Iowa, Randy Wingrove and David Wingrove both of Dow City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Don (Arlene) Wingrove of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jack (Betty Jane) Wingrove of Dunlap, Iowa; mother-in-law, Beulah Mulligan of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
